We are proud of our providers and all the fantastic work they do in our community. Throughout 2018, we’ll continue to feature interviews starting from our newest provider about life outside of the office.

Madison Gobbell, PA-C is our October 2018 Provider of the Month. Madison has been with SERO Group since January 2018 and sees patients at Pineville Radiation Therapy Center and Rock Hill Radiation Therapy Center.

Tell us about your family.

My family here in Charlotte is my husband, Jack, and our two pups, Sophie and Bowie. The rest of our family still lives in our hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee. When we’re both away from work we like to take our dogs on walks, go on bike rides, and volunteer with our favorite local organization, Carolina Thread Trail.

What is your favorite movie, TV series, or book series?

I’m not really a big movie watcher so it’s hard to pick a favorite movie, but I do like watching TV. My favorite series would be “Parks and Recreation” or “30 Rock.” I’ve seen them both several times through, but they’re still my go-tos when I don’t know what to watch. I’m not a big reality TV fan, but I could sit and watch “Chopped” for hours. I’ve recently gotten more into reading and am currently reading a book about the history of vaccines.

What was your most memorable moment in medical school?

I can’t think of any specific moments while I was in PA school, but my favorite moments definitely happened outside the classroom. I went to school in a very rural area, so besides being in class there was not much to besides hiking or being outdoors in some fashion (when we weren’t studying of course!). My friends and I, or even me by myself, would go on a hike almost daily after being in class from 8-5. It was so important for our mental health while stressing out about school, to be completely disconnected in nature for a few hours. No screens, no books, no thinking about memorizing childhood viral exanthems-  just enjoying quality time together. We laughed until we cried, or just cried from a hard day at school, but we made memories together that will stick with me for a lifetime.

Are there any hobbies you dream about getting into but haven’t yet?

I know it sounds pretty tame, but I dream of being a talented gardener. I would love to have beautiful, full flower gardens around my home. It would also be so neat to have a vegetable garden and be able to grow our own food. I guess it’s never too late to learn a new skill!
