Announcing a New Cancer Center in Rowan County: Novant Health Wallace Cancer Institute

We believe that quality cancer care that’s close to home is vital, so we’re pleased to share that the residents of Rowan County have access to a new Novant Rowan Cancer Center, the Novant Health Wallace Cancer Institute. A New Cancer Treatment Center in Rowan County

The Novant Health Wallace Cancer Institute provides cutting-edge technology, leading cancer experts, and compassionate support that provides comfort and healing all in a single location. With 32,000 square feet of space, this facility will offer state-of-the-art cancer treatment facilities, allowing residents of Rowan County to receive lifesaving care in their own backyard. The Novant Health Wallace Cancer Institute has been named in honor of Lee and Mona Wallace, who live in Rowan County and whose generosity made this center possible. 

Services Provided at the Novant Health Wallace Cancer Institute

The Novant Health Wallace Cancer Institute provides a wide range of treatment options to those in need. These include:

• Genetic counseling to detect cancer risk
• Medical and radiation oncology treatments 
• Compassionate cancer nurse navigators who can help patients navigate the details of the treatment and recovery process
• Access to a wide variety of integrative medicine treatments
• Connections to clinical trials run by nationally recognized partners for the latest cancer treatments
• A comprehensive infusion center
• On-site ancillary cancer treatment services, including laboratory testing, imaging, and palliative care
• Compassionate support services, support groups, and even a boutique

SERO Will Partner with Novant Health

SERO is proud to partner with the medical oncologists at Novant Health including Dr. William Brinkley, Dr. Swetha Gujja, and Dr. Mark Wimmer, and two experienced nurse practitioners to provide the most advanced diagnostic and treatment options for cancer and blood disorders. SERO will work with Novant Health to ensure that every patient at the Novant Health Wallace Cancer Institute has comprehensive cancer treatment services.

Cutting-Edge Radiation Therapy 

Novant Health Wallace Cancer Institute will feature innovative radiation therapy services. Dr. Gregory Mitro of SERO will lead the program and provide patients with access to a novel Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator, which is the most advanced treatment option available in radiation oncology. The Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator precisely targets and destroys cancer cells located anywhere in the body while preserving healthy tissue. Because the Varian TrueBeam is among the fastest radiation therapy treatment options available, treatment sessions are shorter, allowing patients to spend more time in recovery with their family members and friends and less time sitting in the office.

Support Services 

At the Novant Health Wallace Cancer Institute, patients will have access to a wide range of support services as well. This includes an oncology dietician, counseling services, transportation services, and even social services that assist patients with a variety of ancillary needs during their time in treatment. The center also offers the Hope Boutique, which offers items such as special clothing, scarves, wigs, and even mastectomy bras. Patients at the Novant Health Wallace Cancer Institute will also have access to a wide range of prostheses if needed.
